Closure of Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers in Chicago
A popular fast-casual dining chain, Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, has closed its last location in the Chicago area, leaving local fans without access to their favorite fast food. The Crystal Lake restaurant, which opened in 2021, is among several Freddy's outlets that have shut down in Illinois, following closures in Frankfort, Glendale Heights, Orland Park, Lake Zurich, and Romeoville earlier in 2025. As of now, there are no Freddy's restaurants left in the Chicago region. While the reasons for the closure have not been disclosed, it coincides with a leadership change after the acquisition of the chain by the Rhne Group for approximately $700 million. Founded in 2002 by the Simon brothers and their partner Scott Redler, Freddy's has grown to 400 locations nationwide. The restaurant industry is facing significant challenges, with other chains such as Denny's and Red Lobster also announcing closures due to financial struggles. Overall, the dining landscape is shifting as many beloved chains reevaluate their operations.
